Halloween, already?!

I had plans. Big plans. At the fabric store, buying fabric, Erika sewing Em's costume, Ellie's face looking at the hand-me-down choices, the girls adding bling and curls... and I missed it. Oh, to to be back to my normal self and feeling healthy! Erika took over the mommy role (not hard), and the girls transformed themselves into their Halloween fun! Although it was chilly, they had lots of fun (somehow they lost daddy at some cooler on the other street!) and they collected lots of candy, having fun exchanging it at our after-halloween party at our neighbor's house. As I blog, too tired to take a picture of our living room floor with hundreds of pieces of candy scattered ready to swap tomorrow amongst sisters, i pray they fall into a blissfull sweet sleep of another blesssed night.

It's Fall- I think!!!

With the flu hitting us a couple weeks ago, I feel I've been out of touch with my favorite holiday of the year. I'm a sucker for a good trip with lots of pictures to our local pumpkin patch, but this year somehow it slipped through our fingers. The flu hit us hard, and I keep wanting to "think" I'm feeling better, along with my youngest two, but the aches and coughing seem to linger much longer than we're wanting them to.
Cabin fever has started way before it needs to, but when you take your child out and she is hacking and coughing (although fever-free for way over 24 hours!!!) I feel the cough is as bad as the fever. So cabin we are bound.
Emily trudged back to school, although i loved having her home with me, and I could've easily gotten used to that! Today I was to help in her classroom and I love being there.... so with Ellie still home, my mom came to the rescue. I shower, and "look" like I'm ready for the world, sucking on a cough drop and a gallon of water, hoping her teacher doesn't notice my hacking cough. I love being at school, hearing the conversation, putting all the pieces together, making sense of it all, oh... and helping Miss Fitz! Emily's occassional hug and wink made every cough under my breath worth it!!!
Needless to say, I come home from school today and can actually "smell" when I walk in our house. It smells like Fall. Love it! Pumpkin bread. Ellie made pumpkin bread with Nana. Love it!

A First For Everything...

Ellie and her firsts! She is quite the competetive one! When she realized she had a loose tooth and Erika lost hers in second grade and Emily in kindergarten, she wanted to know when in kindergarten did Emily lose her tooth. "Bring it"... is our philosophy with Ellie. Whatever you can do, I can do better, and with more zest! So, the loose tooth extravaganza begins! Wiggle, wiggle, pain. Wiggle more, bear the pain... more loose! Yes! Lost it two months before Emily did! Oh my, is this competition a good thing or bad?!

We've been hit...

The flu found us this week. I knew it was only a matter of time, I was just hoping it wasn't at the same time that I was running a temperature and feeling like a truck hit me! We had to cancel Emily's birthday party last week because she spiked a fever, and she has had a terrible cough and stuffy nose with aches and stomach pain all week. It always seems harder when Rob is gone. He is my rock and my soother.
I have been very worried about Ellie getting it, due to her asthma and the difficulty she always with her breathing when she picks up a virus. She gets pneumonia several times a year, and we have been taking so many precautionary steps to try to avoid the flu, but it's here and we are coping. Ellie was just in to her allergist last week with a flair-up and ear infection. She has been doing her breathing treatment several times a day, between her steroid and the rescue. Amongst all this, we ran out of her steroid (Pulmicort), and when we went to fill it we found out that they don't carry the generic brand anymore so it would be $370- which would only last about 6 weeks! The allergist prescribed an oral steroid to take while we tried to figure out the insurance thing. No budging from the insurance end, so we made an appointment with the allergist again, to consider options for a steroid inhaler.
She has gotten better, just a lingering cough (at night, especially).
Friday I picked her up from school and her cheeks were fire-red and she said her throat and stomach hurt. Tylenol brought it down (you can't give asthmatics Ibuprofen, it can trigger the asthma). And she did well through the night, except for her stomach.
Rob and I decided we need to take them both to the Dr. because Emily's fever spiked out of nowhere as well. She had more symptoms then Ellie at this point, but knew we needed to get Ellie in within the 48 hour time period with her fever. Emily tested negative to strep and mono, so they were assuming she had the flu and she was still dealing with it. Ellie tested positive for the flu, so she was put on Tamiflu, to help reduce the symptoms as they come. The D. was mainly concerned when the flu settles in her chest, and her cough starts up, which won't be for another 3 days or so. All we can do is stay consistent with her breathing treatments, and let her get plenty of rest. And pray.
(Sometimes when I write, i love writing to share things for my family to relish in as they read it. Other times like this, I ramble and write things because I know I will forget and I will someday want to say, "Oh yeah, I remember that!" So I'm sorry for my lengthy one tonight. I know I should keep a journal by my bed for times like this, but I've been saying that for ten years, and I have yet to start one. Besides, this is so much easier. Thanks for bearing with me on this one. And say a little prayer for Ellie.)

Ellie's feeling better!

That stinker. I caught her when I came into Erika's room to put laundry away. One minute she is tucking in her baby doll, the next minute she is doing flips on the bed. Oh, to have her energy!

Until next year...

My fingers have sat on this keyboard for awhile now, wondering just what to say about our Emily and Elizabeth's first soccer experience. I can say that they liked it and they had fun, I guess that's what matters at this age! They got a great workout because it wasn't until mid-season when they realized they don't have to chase the ball everywhere it goes; to just "wait for it in your position," like Coach says. They loved the snacks and the tunnel at the end of the game. They're pretty cute out there on the field. They're willing to play again next year... It's all good.

Rewind

Can't we just rewind to the summer and for just a moment forget about all this scary stuff surrounding us right now? Go Away, H1N1!!!

What a Fortieth!

I'm sure it will be a long time before my neighbor forgets her 40th! Her husband somehow managed to pull a surprise party for her at their house, hot air ballon and all! It was gorgeous and so awesome to see it lit at night. It didn't go up of course, but it was a fun display.

Really?!?!

I'm not sure why I felt the need to post this picture, except for the fact that I need to remind myself that this too shall pass and someday I will want a messy table again?!

Date Night with Daddy

Emily. Emmers. Half-pint. Emmy. My sweet girl turns 8. 8!!! As she rolled over this morning, stretched, and whispered with a smile, "Only two days till my date with Daddy." I smile and squeeze her. She finds the positive in everything. With Daddy not here on her birthday since it is during the week, she made plans with her Daddy to go on a date, and she wants a fancy dress and a steak. That's her request. She doesn't ask for much. Ever.

In Daddy's Arms
in daddy's arms i am tall
and close to the sun and warm
in daddy's arms.
in daddy's arms i can see Granny's sunset
i can touch the bottom leaves of her maple tree
in our front yard
in daddy's arms
in my daddys arms the moon is close
closer at night time when i can almost touch it
when it smiles back at me from the wide twinkling skies
in daddy's arms i am tall
taller than Uncle Bri and my friends Erica and Katie
taller than Papaw
and best of all
i am taller than erika, my big sister
in my daddys arms
i am strong and brave like daddy laughing
happier than Caesar our neighbors' dog
when i pet him
when daddy spins me round and round
and the whole world is crazy upside down
i am big and strong and proud like him
in daddy's arms
my daddy

Erika is having a wonderful start at Berry Intermediate School! She is all smiles and I always look forward to picking her up so I can hear all about her day when it is fresh in her mind. Her teachers have high expectations and hold her accountable, which is great for her. She has reconnected with old friends from when she went to Lebanon a few years ago, but has also met a new friend, Ammarie. Erika talks so much about her, and Friday she found out she was moving back to Florida on Sunday for her Dad's job. Erika had a sad heart today, and finding the right words for times like this are always hard. She said, "At least we can keep email each other and she can read your blog to still see pictures of me!" A proud mommy moment. (: Too cute.
