At the start of summer vacation, the girls wanted to "do something" for the oil spill. They were so upset by seeing the ocean animals drenched in oil, and worried just as much about the creatures and habitat lying at the bottom of the ocean and if it was affecting them as well. They channeled their worries by planning a craft sale and donating all the proceeds to the oil spill. Thinking it was a great idea, and since they were getting older, they needed to actually have a plan. They pleasantly surprised me by creating a flyer to deliver to neighbors, a list of what they wanted to make (and a list of supplies they needed to make them), and a brochure of the crafts and prices.
They worked all summer making jewelry, sewing crafts, creating clay pieces, weaving, and so much more! They also painted faces and nails. Can't believe I don't have a picture of the craft table.
They pulled it off in the 100 degree weather by driving around the neighborhood with a reminder of the sale, and had a great turnout! They had families stopping by, some without children, even! Lots of fun for the kids and for such a great cause! They filled the donation jar with a whopping 17 some dollars each for the ocean spill and the WWF (World Wildlife Fund). They even made little slips to give with your purchase thanking you for helping with the oil spill crisis. Quite the entrepreneurs!
